Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let
them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send
some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank
you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support
the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their
brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by
buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open. I
know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't
mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street-to-street and
house-to-house.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard
it and no one will never know.

Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again
when I deploy once more.

The venue and dates for the official HMS GLASGOW C21-D88 old boys association reunion for 2009, have now been confirmed. It will be held at the Warwick Hotel, South Shore, Blackpool, over the weekend of Friday 7th August-Monday 10th August 2009. All are welcome to attend and wife's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's, etc. are most welcome. The hotel only has 50 rooms (and we have pre-booked all of them) so early booking is recommended. The hotel is situated just back from the sea front and many of it's rooms have sea views. The hotel also has a heated indoor private swimming pool and two bars one open to the public from 2000-2300 and one for residents only, open 24 hours (Tim, Charlie and Dennis you will be ok then). It has a private car park to the rear and limited public parking to the front. The Pleasure Beach is only a 10 minute walk and town is about a 25-30 minutes walk with many bars on the way, but there are bus and tram stops outside the hotel to get you to both. The cost of the weekend is £40 per person for one night, £80 per person for two nights or £105 per person for the full weekend. (This is very cheap compared to there normal prices.) The price is for Bed, Breakfast and evening meal with entertainment. A non-refundable deposit of £10 per person will be required to confirm your stay, with the balance payable by the end of May 2009. (the hotel brochure has been placed in the gallery section). For more details and to book your place contact Allan Mercer on 0151 422 8026, or if you want to contact me i will try to help you, but Allan is the person you need to contact to book. If you are going to attend please also let me know and i will put a list of names on the web site.
Hope to see many of you there. Let's make it a good weekend.

Well, what can i say? Most of the weekend went well, the rest of it i don't know about (had one or two to many on Friday night). So if any one who was there can tell me what happened please feel free to do so. The company was good but the venue left a lot to be desired. I am sure that i can speak for all that turned up i.e. Gary Eaton, Tim Froggatt, Charlie Griffin, Steve Lovell, Dennis Moorehouse and Ian Tagg and say we had a good time (some photos in gallery). The weekend long 50p bar went down well, it just about paid for the weekend. It was nice to meet up with some of the previous HMS GLASGOW antiques from well before our time, especially Allan Mercer who has founded the HMS GLASGOW association in the first place and has done a great job keeping it running for so long. A trip out to the White Ensign Club in Exeter was arranged for the Saturday (more:D beer) and if by any chance any one from there is reading this i would like to say thank you for the food and tot, they went down very well. I know that not every one is as rich as Tim but what are the chances of more D88 turning up for 2009, as six is a very low number out of the thousands that must of served on her over the years. We have asked Allan to try and arrange next years some were central to make it easier for every one, but the excuse "to far to travel" is a poor one, the six of us all had to travel (Lancashire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and South Wales). I appreciate that some people have commitments and disabilities, etc. and cannot make it but surely that mounts to only a small percentage, so come on lets get a good turn out for 2009. I for one hope to be going and hope to see a lot more of you there. I will inform you of any arrangements if and when i hear about them.
Till next time-:D

Thought I'd stick my name onto a new thread, figured it would be easier to post replies here rather than tack everything onto Ged's thread.

Nice to be 'back on board', I was a bit saddened when I heard about Glasgow being decomissioned. But its good to know Scouse has organised this site for us - well done Scouse!

Being a sad git with too much time at work and nothing to do over the Xmas period I found a Zippo lighter with the "Invisible" Falklands 25th Anniversary on it on Ebay.

Did a search and found the following company who can do :

"HMS GLASGOW"
"FALKLANDS CAMPAIGN"
"25th ANNIVERSARY"
1982 - 2007

Then the ships crest on the front.

As standard it's on a black zippo type lighter at £9.99, but can be done on a chrome proper Zippo for £22.

Website is: http://www.blackcat-engravedgifts.co.uk

Just in case anyone is interested.
