The Veterans lapel badge has generated an incredible amount of intrest from veterans since its launch in May 2004. It has been produced to recognise the sacrifices made by those who have served in UK Armed Forces for the benefit of the country. The badge was initially supplied from the MOD in London bu responsibility has now passed to the Veterans Agency in Blackpoolo. The high quality enamel and gilt badge comes boxed as in manufactured by The Toye Group. Over 50,000 badges have been ordered to date for distribution. Eligible veterans can apply in a number of ways, either online at www.veteransagency.mod.uk or via the Veterans Helpling 0800 169 2277 or by writing to, Veterans Badge, Veterans Agency, Room 6108, Norcross, Blackpool, FY5 3WP. Initially the badge was restricted to those who served in WW1 and WW2, including members of the Cyprus Regiment,m Polish forces under UK Command, Home Guard and Merchant Navy seaman. However from 20th January, the scheme was extended to cover WW2 war-widow(ers) and from 1st Febuary the badge is included in service leaver packs subject to certain conditions. Eligibility for the badge is kept under continual review and further extensions are expect. The Minister for Veterans is keen to see this expansion take place as soon as possibke, to ensure all ex-Service personnel, of whatever generation, are in receipt of a badge should they want one. Whit demand exceeding supply a backlog of applications built up but this has now been cleared, New applicants should now receive a badge within four weeks of receopt of their form, depending on stock availability.
